Flower Knight Girls How Do You See Scenes Again
Spoilers for Firefly Lane. So y'all finished flavor one of Firefly Lane, the coming-of-age Netflix series starring Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke and based on the novel past Kristin Hannah, and yous have questions. Like: Is Johnny dead? Will Tully get back toThe Girlfriend Hour? And, most importantly: What on God's light-green earth did Tully practise to blow upwards her decades-long friendship with Kate, not to mention her godmother-ship of Marah?
Well, welcome to the order! The first season ends on a major cliffhanger—for Johnny, for Tully, for all the characters nosotros've come to love (and whose wigs nosotros despair of). Johnny falls victim to an IED while reporting in Iraq; the series ends with him lying on his dorsum, injured, though information technology'south not clear how badly. Tully quitsThe Girlfriend 60 minutes in protest of her predatory and decision-making dominate, and asks Kate to start a new show with her. And most alarmingly, we get a flash-frontward to the nowadays day, two years afterwards, where Tully and Kate are no longer friends. What?
Kristin Hannah'south books (yes, at that place'southward a sequel) provide some potential answers. Hither, nosotros intermission down the catastrophe of Firefly Lane, and what could be in store for season two.
What did Tully do to Kate?
By far the most alarming plot twist (sorry, Johnny; sorry, Bud) was the revelation that Kate and Tully'south friendship had imploded. I hateful, these two had been all-time friends, closer than sisters, for three decades. Only in the wink-forward at Bud'south funeral, Tully shows up and Kate is furious. "No ane wants you hither," Kate says.

"Don't you lot recollect you've punished me enough?" Tully asks.
Kate replies, "When I said that I could never forgive you for what you did, what did y'all call back that meant?" She adds: "Go home. Now. I don't ever desire to come across you over again."
This is, to put it mildly, jarring as hell, given that we've just spent ten episodes watching the development of a friendship so unbreakable that nothing—non men, non family unit, not their very unlike lives—can come up betwixt them. But past the fourth dimension Bud dies, two years later, Tully has washed something so unforgivable that Kate believes in that location is no repairing their relationship.
This is whereFirefly Lanethe book comes in handy. Now, Hannah'southward book differs quite sharply from the series—for case, Johnny and Kate are never on the cusp of divorce—so this specific plot point may not be reflected in the serial.Butin the book, Tully and Kate fall out over a humiliating incident: Tully brings Kate and Marah onto her bear witness, The Girlfriend Hour , under the pretense of repairing their fraught relationship.Just the segment turns out to exist about overprotective mothers and the mode they harm their children, and Kate is horrified to be lambasted equally a bad parent on national Television—by her best friend, no less.
Is this why Kate and Tully accept fallen out in the series? Well, we'll have to look for flavour two, should it happen, to find out. Information technology's worth noting that Tully quitsThe Girlfriend Hourin season one before any betrayal takes identify, deciding to team up with Kate on a new serial of their ain—but that doesn't mean that she can't betray Kate in some style on their new show. Ben Lawson, who plays Johnny, told HollywoodLife: "I think if my assumption is correct, [the reason Kate and Tully fall out is] going to be well-nigh Marah. I think that's probably information technology."
Did Johnny die in Republic of iraq?
The final episode also shows Johnny existence injured, potentially very badly, in an explosion in Iraq. Johnny also isn't present for the "two years later" wink-forward, which is ominous. Still: Given that Johnny and Kate were going through divorce proceedings for most of the serial, information technology wouldn't be crazy if they came to Bud's funeral separately, assuming that Johnny was still alive—so that might explain why Johnny, should he survive, wasn't in the flash-forward.
In the book, Johnny does non die. Lawson joked to HollywoodLife: "If they were to follow the story of the book, and so you know Johnny'south going to live to fight another day." Merely, a twist (yes, another 1): Showrunner Maggie Friedman toldCollider that even if Lawsondiddice, Johnny would all the same be in the show'due south flashback scenes—"so that'due south why [Lawson is] not worried."
However, one primary graphic symboldoes dice in the book that doesn't in the Netflix serial—and information technology'due southKate, who passes away from late-stage cancer. Considering it would be near-incommunicable to do a season two, or any more seasons, without both Kate and Tully nowadays, the series opts non to include that storyline. Showrunner Maggie Friedman explained toEW: "1 of the things I recollect that's been fun is that nosotros have kept some big moments from the book and been very true to those, and then there are other things that we've washed that are different."
That said.Firefly Lanecould go on simply fine without Johnny (I said what I said!), who is more than crucial to Kate and Tully'southward early life than the afterwards stages. Non to mention, the sequel toFirefly Lanethe volume is all near Tully and Marah and Johnny's grief after Kate's passing—so if the second seasonisloosely based on that book, it's possible that Kate's death would be swapped out for Johnny's.
What else would a second season have? Well, more flashbacks, for one. Friedman said toEW: "I think in that location are a lot more stories to tell, if we're lucky enough to have a flavor two, of those girls going through high schoolhouse and what that's like." And—spoiler alarm for the book sequel—Tully gets into a terrible, life-threatening blow inFly Abroad, the sequel toFirefly Lane, so it's possible that would exist written in equally well.
